Serve the Lord with great humility and with tears.

Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and give his life as a ransom for many.

If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, "We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty."

Now this is our boast: Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in our relations with you, in the holiness and sincerity that are from God. We have done so not according to worldly wisdom but according to God’s grace. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

Today pray for our legislators in both the Senate and House of Representatives, to wisely consider that they are elected to represent the people of the nation and not serve themselves only.
